01. The Brief
Our clients needed an architect in Salcombe, Devon to provide them with a Full Architectural Service for their Design 2 new waterfront houses
02. Project Detail
We were approached by the owner who had already achieved a planning permission for two houses on this impressive, but sensitive site, overlooking the waterfront in Salcombe. We were appointed to redesign the appearance of the building, along with preparing a detail set of Building regulations and Construction drawings.
The cantilevered first floor blocks are clad in horizontal slate slips of differing colour, texture and depth. Their collective appearance mimics the shimmering qualities of the ocean, and glimmering when wet. Within the slate surrounds sit delicate timber screens than provide an element of privacy, contrast and shade.
The submission was praised by South Hams planning authority and approval was given in 2011. Building regulations plan sign off was also achieved later in the year.
04. Client Testimonial
When we started, we weren’t even sure what it was we wanted and it wasn’t until about the ‘Mark VII’ version that we finally felt brave enough to give the go ahead. During this ‘design gestation’ we felt embarrassed at our lack of direction but our indecision was met with patience and guidance until the final layout was agreed…everything was handled with smooth professionalism including the planning process with Dartmoor National Park.
