Salcombe Coastal Houses
Our clients needed an architect in Salcombe, Devon to provide them with a Full Architectural Service for their Design 2 new waterfront houses.
We were approached by the owner who had already achieved a planning permission for two houses on this impressive, but sensitive site, overlooking the waterfront in Salcombe. We were appointed to redesign the appearance of the building, along with preparing a detail set of Building regulations and Construction drawings.
The cantilevered first floor blocks are clad in horizontal slate slips of differing colour, texture and depth. Their collective appearance mimics the shimmering qualities of the ocean, and glimmering when wet. Within the slate surrounds sit delicate timber screens than provide an element of privacy, contrast and shade.
The submission was praised by South Hams planning authority and approval was given in 2011. Building regulations plan sign off was also achieved later in the year.
van Ellen + Sheryn Architects provided a beautiful and sympathetic design package to our listed period home. As well as explaining the limitations we were working within they created wonderful design solutions. They worked on a ground floor rear extension and full refurbishment of the internal space. The house feels spacious, light and well appointed.
We have loads of storage elegantly blended into the space. After 8 years we still love every inch of the house and that’s due to the foresight of Eilir and Freddie understanding the needs of a growing family. They assisted us when the budget started to grow in where the best options were to spend our money. Professional and approachable throughout our project. We would definitely look to work with this architect firm again.
