Our clients needed an architect in Crediton, Devon to provide them with a full exterior and interior design service for their House refurbishment and extension.
This full house refurbishment and extension of a character property in the grounds of Creedy Park, Crediton is another successful collaboration Goulden and Sons of Totnes. The red brick house was once the gardener’s cottage for the Manor House estate at Creedy Park. Extended and altered over the years, the house interior needed re-ordering and opening up to allow it to function as a modern home and connect it with its considerable gardens. A front-to-back kitchen / dining room becomes the heart of the home, and connects living areas with a garden terrace to the front, and a glass-box garden room to the side. All bathrooms within the house were re-modelled, to provide high quality, contemporary and spacious rooms.
A new terrace and veranda were constructed on the front elevation to replace an unsightly conservatory and connect the house to the garden below. This terrace steps down to a sunken garden room. The side extension is hidden from view from the front of the house by the existing red-brick garden wall, with only a hint of what lies beyond given by the new slot-window. Moving through the archway into the rear garden, the glass-box reveals itself, and provides the new route and entrance into the home. As well as providing the new entrance into the house, the extension doubles up as a garden room that can enjoy evening sun and the views up into the rear garden. A palette of grey, white and timber sit comfortably against the rich red tones of the brickwork.
Architecture and building works was something we had not done before and we found Van Ellen and Sheryn easy to work with and very professional, going beyond what was required to make the whole thing straight forward and trouble free.
I wanted to convert an old conservatory into a usable space for all year round use. Van Ellen gave very good initial advice about what options were available to us with regards to the architectural work and costs. Then once we had agreed on a plan were excellent at giving us ideas based on what we thought, but added numerous options of theirs. They then gave us clear drawings of the different options and a smooth transition through the planning permission. They gave us numerous recommended contractors, material ideas, and even helped afterwards when the contractors had more technical questions at no extra cost.
