Our clients needed an architect in Ashburton, Devon to provide them with a Full Architectural Service for their New build residential development of 18 flats.
The Ashburton Cattle Market site is situated in the heart of Ashburton, surrounded by historic and listed buildings. We have designed 18 apartments, housed in two blocks, split over three storeys. The timber structure will be clad with a combination of coloured render, slate hanging and local stone, designed to blend in with the local vernacular architecture. The design was developed in conjunction with the Environment Agency to address the inherent flood risk issues within the area.
Detailed consultations were held with Dartmoor National Park and the Town Council before submission. The application received unanimous support at the planning Committee meeting and was praised for its sympathetic design within the heart of this historic town.
Construction is due to start in Summer 2010.
We used the van Ellen and Sheryn practice as we had been impressed by a project they had completed on Dartmoor. We worked alongside both Eilir and Ian and both were very approachable, experienced and informal….which we liked.
They listened to our brief and appreciated that we had a budget.
Our project was complicated as we wanted to retain the Georgian frontage of the building and demolish the rear, adding a contemporary barn like structure.
They were always available and professional throughout..It’s reassuring to know they are just down the road should we need advice or clarification during the build process. We would certainly recommend them.
